I found this interview today and it brought up some really interesting ideas in my head. I really like buying and listening vinyl, and Jonny Greenwood said he likes listening to vinyl at home because of it’s “finite” length. I could not agree more.

There’s something special about the listening experience when you subdivide the record into “sides.” Sometimes when the record is over you want to flip it back and start all over again. I can’t tell you how many albums i’ve bought on iTunes or Amazon MP3 that I’ve only listened to once. This is sad.

The internet is great for music, but I don’t think it’s good for the “Music Experience.” I miss waking up and driving to the record store to get the music that I’d been longing for. Now I mostly pre-order vinyls from band’s websites or buy the record on Amazon release Tuesday. Yes, this is the most convenient thing to do, but I really wonder if all these conveniences are snowballing music into a worthless commodity.

Anyway, I’m rambling, but I do love Jonny Greenwood. I like his take on Audiophiles and HIFI music in general. He has a good head on his shoulders.

love,

Mark
